If I had a magical bagone that could hold memories, feelings, and moments instead of just physical objects—these are the things I would never let go of. They’re the sensations, sounds, and sights that make life feel like it’s dipped in a little bit of magic, each one a thread in the tapestry of my story.

• The soft wool of a baby lamb (and yes, there’s a story there—I’ll tell you someday).

• The first wave that glides across my legs when I step into the ocean, like a welcome home.

• My daughter’s laughter, beautiful and bright and utterly hers.

• The exhilaration of a thunderstorm, especially when I’m safe inside.

• My first shooting star, arcing across the Carolina sky like it knew I was watching.

• My friend’s voice—deep, slightly Southern, that wraps me in a blanket while also making me feel that familiar, flutter. (Hmm, that’s interesting … wink)

• The clean softness of freshly washed sheets, especially when I slide in with freshly shaven legs.

• The flavor and sensation of my first Affogato—espresso and salted caramel ice cream melting into something quietly magical.

• The invigorating chill of a blustery autumn afternoon, crisp and full of possibility.

• The comfort of opening a beloved book, spine creaking softly like it’s saying hello.

• The flip-flop, flip-flop of flip-flops on the sun-warmed boardwalk.

• The quiet bonding of nursing my son, heart to heart, breath to breath.

• The playfulness that appears when I stop overthinking and just let myself be.

• The smell of dirt in a garden I’ve planted from seed—earthy, hopeful, full of promise.

• Sheer white curtains dancing in a spring breeze, inviting me to join in their waltz.

• The drowsy, sun-kissed feeling after a shower on a beach day.

• The quiet that settles after a snowstorm, like the world has been silenced on purpose.

• The awe of a full moon rising over the ocean, timeless and enchanting.

• The first bite of lobster dipped in hot butter—rich, messy, and absolutely worth it.

These things remind me that life, with all its ups and downs, can be an enchanting collection of tiny, beautiful moments. Not just for nostalgia—but for grounding. For remembering who I’ve been, and who I’m still becoming. For keeping wonder close enough to reach for on the days when the world feels a little too big.

I believe we all need to carry at least a few quiet treasures tucked close — charms for the soul that remind us we’ve truly lived.

What’s in your bag?

I’d be delighted to share in your magic—leave a charm or two in the comments.

Until next time,

                             Dawn
